As some of you know, I spent four months this year working with and teaching a group of Homeless Women photography. This project was part of a Social Art Initiative of Venice Arts, Org., in collaboration with OPCC and it’s Daybreak Program, and was funded in part by the LA County Arts Commission and the LA County Productivity Investment Fund. This project gave 10 women, who have been on and off the streets in a community that is often ignored (or avoided) a VOICE. Through photography, they studied their environment, their experiences, and their visions of themselves and society. Through it all, many gained for the first time in their lives, empowerment.
Please join me in celebrating their incredibly moving images. I would love to see you all on July 25th at the Venice Arts Gallery.
