Maya received her BFA with a concentration in photography from Alfred University in upstate NY in 2000. A month after graduation her car died. Deciding that fate was telling her to adopt public transportation, Maya packed up her stuff and jumped on the next train to the Big Apple. Having carried a camera at her side since the age of fifteen, Maya’s dream of a career in photography was well into play, and there was no better place to pursue it than in the stimulating bustle of New York City. Maya spent the next six years freelancing as an event and documentary photographer while also serving as the digital technician and in-house photographer for the fashion industry’s premier Photo Retoucher, Pascal Dangin. Living in New York City, photographing her first weddings, and people watching until well, she got caught, gave Maya a diverse palate of subject matter and her experiences there inform and define her images today. In late 2005 Maya moved to Southern California to start her own business in sunnier climates. She photographs weddings and events both locally and across the globe and returns to New York often for work and a taste of home.

Today Maya photographs weddings, special events for private and corporate clients, and also works as mentor and photographer with local and national non-profit organizations. She is an award-winning member of the Wedding Photojournalists Association and was honored with Wedding Wire’s Brides Choice Award in 2011. Her wedding images have been published in the New York Times Style section, Newsweek (same sex wedding feature), Los Angeles Times Magazine, Syracuse Post Standard special Weddings Feature, Ceremony Magazine’s California Wedding Wave, and Style Me Pretty. Her editorial and documentary images have been published in media outlets such as MSN, NBC News, Variety, SELF, Westside Today, and W, and she has been seen on Style Network’s Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, E! Network’s Kendra (wedding episode), and HGTV’s Showhouse Showdown.

Aside from her images, Maya is best recognized for her intuitive energy and personable nature. She can be silent and unobtrusive, or vibrant with humor and energy to match what the mood calls for. In any given environment she captures human expression and translates it into a dynamic image and moving narrative.

Maya loves her craft and it shows through her images and the care she provides to each of her clients.
